The American College of Lifestyle Medicine defines Lifestyle Medicine as β€œThe use of a whole food plant-predominant dietary lifestyle, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connection as a primary therapeutic modality for treatment and reversal of chronic disease.”

Lifestyle Medicine is founded on evidence-based principals which integrate the therapeutic modalities mentioned above.  It can be easy to focus on one area such as healthful eating or exercise but the interplay between each modality may be the most important factor in optimizing health and well-being.  In order to improve sleep one must have good techniques for managing stress.  In order to manage stress one needs to engage in adequate exercise.  To engage in exercise, proper nutrition is key.  And, the list goes on.

Each modality is just as important as the other.

The body is as important as the mind.  The mind is as important as the spirit.  The spirit is as important as the body. Only together can you flourish in each of these areas.

This approach allows individuals to take an active role in their health and empowers them to make sustainable changes for optimizing well-being.
